Ode to Motherhood

A mother is not a person to lean on but a person to make leaning unnecessary.

                                                         Dorothy C. Fisher

 My Little Girl

As I watch you grow into a young woman

My heart is full of pride and fear

I find it hard to let go

Because I want you frozen in time

As my smart, loving, and happy little girl

I want to protect you always

 From life's blows and miseries

But it is inevitable for you to grow

 Wanting to explore the world

 To gather life experiences

I understand your yearning for independence

Yet I am afraid to let go

 Please be patient with me

 For in my heart

You will forever be my little girl

I really like that poem at the end. Did you write it? It's awesome!

This is such a good poem and expresses exactly what's in a mother's heart concerning letting go.  Truly one of the hardest things we parents have to learn.

Beautiful Poem! Do you know that that painting is exhibited in Paris at Musee d`Orsay? I always assumed this most famous of America`s paintings would be here!

Having 19 years experience being a daughter, I can tell you that (though she might not want to let you know) your daughter would be remissed if you ever stopped thinking of her as your little girl. This poem is truly beautiful, and reflects what a wonderful mother you are. Your daughter is lucky to have you :)

I come here by way of Mirror Mirror on the Wall.  This 'ode' sums up motherhood in short order.  I look at my 2 boys almost daily with that sense of loss in seeing them change from little boys.  I wish I could slow down time and commit to memory every thing they do that makes my heart soar.  From one mother to another, it's the sweetest heartbreak I've ever experienced.

Beautiful poem.  Thank you for stopping by my journal and commenting.  Naturally, I had to pay you a return visit.  I love your journal, and will be back.

Today, I was walking hand in hand with my youngest daughter and she said "Mommy, how long do you think it will be before I can wear real womans shoes instead of little girls shoes." I thought for a moment, and said "Darlin, as soon as your feet decide they are ready, but that may not mean your mind is ready. I think you should just enjoy being a little girl." And with that she said, "Ok Mom, I'll keep enjoying this part, but I still want bigger shoes!"  I don't think, I know I'm not ready for the bigger shoes part, but It's coming quicker then I want to admit.

Beautiful poem and great picture. I believe it is Whistler's Mother?  As to your comment on my journal about family trees, well no, I have not found one criminal!!!! Maybe I am just lucky lol.

He's sort of the AOL resident blogger/expert.  I call him the Blog King.  He gives us tips, ideas, and assignments.  It may sound sort of silly, but you really get sucked into this and if you like to write, it is great practice!
